Silk: The Secrets to Care and Cherish

Ah, silk – the epitome of luxury and elegance. As someone who's always had a soft spot for silk fabrics, I can't help but swoon over the timeless allure of silk blouses and dresses. But let's get real for a moment – caring for silk can sometimes feel like navigating a delicate dance. So, let's dive into some of the burning questions you might have about this luxurious fabric;

First things first – can you hand wash silk?

Absolutely! In fact, hand washing is often the preferred method for delicate silk garments. Just be sure to use lukewarm water and a gentle, mild detergent specially formulated for silk fabrics. Remember to always avoid wringing or twisting the fabric and when it comes to drying, lay your silk garments flat on a clean towel to air dry. Thats how I care for my very own silk pieces from my collection - including our Bellagio Blouses and By The Sea Kaftans which are crafted from 100% silk!

What's the difference between sandwash silk versus silk satin?

While both are made from the same luxurious material, sandwash silk has a matte, suede-like finish, whereas silk satin boasts a glossy sheen. It all comes down to personal preference and the look you're going for.

Is silk sustainable and biodegradable?

The short answer – yes! Silk is a natural fibre derived from the cocoons of silkworms, making it both sustainable and biodegradable. Plus, silk production requires minimal chemical processing, making it an eco-friendly choice.

Why is silk going up in price and why is it so rare?

The answer lies in the intricate and labor-intensive process of silk production. From the meticulous cultivation of silkworms to the painstaking weaving techniques, each step demands unwavering dedication and craftsmanship. Add to that the growing global demand for this sumptuous fabric, and it's no wonder that silk prices are on the rise.

What is the most light and breathable fabric?

While silk certainly holds its own in the breathability department, there's one fabric that reigns supreme – cotton! Known for its lightweight and airy feel, cotton is the go-to choice for staying cool and comfortable on those hot summer days, just like our very own India Rose Cotton collection which is now available.

So there you have it my lovelies – a quick rundown on taking care of silk. Whether you're adorning yourself in a silk blouse or gracefully swirling in a silk dress, embrace the timeless elegance and charm of this timeless fabric.
